Gregor Loepfe was born in Zurich and grew up in Bad Zurzach. He currently lives in Döttingen/AG. After completing his Matura at the Kantonsschule Baden, he studied piano with Rolf Mäser at the Basel Music Academy, graduating in 1995 with a teaching diploma. 1996 diplôme supérieur and 1998 Premier Prix de Virtuosité avec Félicitations at the Conservatoire de Lausanne with Christian Favre. Various master classes (Andràs Schiff, Rudolf Buchbinder, Brigitte Engerer) and several years of lessons in jazz piano and theory (Thierry Lang, Hans Feigenwinter, Vince Benedetti). Study year at the Berklee College of Music in Boston/USA (Ray Santisi, Joanne Brackeen, Hal Crook). Worked as a piano teacher at the Kantonsschule Baden, as a pianist (jazz and classical), composer, arranger and songwriter. Various own musical projects (in duo with cathryn.ch, catmosphere.band, rotosphere.ch) and performances as soloist, accompanist and sideman in bands, in chamber music formations, with choirs and orchestras (Badener Kammerchor, Wettinger Singkreis, Kammerorchester65, Musikkollegium Winterthur).
Licentiate in Musicology and History at the University of Zurich (2012).
Master in Cultural Management at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (2022). Music editor at Radio Swiss Jazz.
Founder and board member of the association “Neue Kurkapelle Baden” and member of the foundation board of Pro Argovia.
